Responsible gambling in Ontario
Responsible gambling is a cornerstone of the regulated iGaming Ontario framework. AGCO-registered operators are required to provide tools and resources that help players stay in control of their gambling activity.
BetGuard — Ontario's centralized self-exclusion
On May 14, 2026, iGaming Ontario launched BetGuard, a single sign-up that lets adults 19+ opt out of every AGCO-registered online gaming site in Ontario — including operator sites and the OLG — through one portal. Registration choices include:
- 6 months
- 1 year
- 5 years
- A custom term
Once registered, the player cannot open new accounts, access existing accounts, or receive marketing from any participating site. BetGuard also offers a dedicated customer-care line. For most Ontarians who want a hard stop, BetGuard is the recommended first step.
Operator-level tools
In addition to BetGuard, every AGCO-registered operator must offer in-platform controls. Through your account settings on the operator's site you can set:
- Deposit limits
- Session time limits
- Reality checks and break reminders
- Operator-level self-exclusion
These controls take effect on that single operator only — if you want coverage across every Ontario igaming site, use BetGuard.
Signs of problem gambling
Watch for: spending more than you can afford, gambling to recover losses, gambling to feel better about other problems, and neglecting work, school, or relationships because of gambling. If any of those sound familiar, reach out for support.
